Yahoo Search Marketing recently blogged about some updates to their content network:
Yahoo! Search Marketing Blog Behind the Scenes It's great to see Yahoo working to improve their content network. Google's content network has come a long way in the last year or so, so it's a needed update on Yahoo's part. I haven't played with content too much yet since the update took place, so I can't speak on the effects it will have yet. However, there is one big thing I'd like to see in Yahoo's content network: increased visibility into what sites Yahoo is showing your ads on. While you do have the option of checking your analytics and weeding out under performing sites, the convenience that Adwords placement reports offers is amazing. I hope Yahoo will take their content network to the next level soon too!

This is a great step for Yahoo! The content matching alone is fantastic. If used properly it provides you with an edge in your market. One thing Yahoo's blog shows is the stride toward showing the right ads and content to the right people. We all know that your average channels of marketing no matter how skillfully done can occasionally fall on deaf ears or as the case may be in SEO blind eyes. The content matching portion of this gives you something that you can not necessarily achieve in-store or in-person. Providing the right ads/information to the right consumers by knowing who is viewing it. You can imagine it like this: You make a trip to Walmart to buy some shoes. The greeter at Walmart as we know it today simply says welcome to Walmart. The paper ads tell us about ALL popular items Walmart has to offer. With content matching, the greeter would now say welcome to Walmart, check out these running shoes on sale! And all of the paper ads that you would see for Walmart that week leading up to your visit would show you all the great prices on shoes. It is a more targeted way of doing things that had its small effect through average marketing channels, but Yahoo now gives you the ability to do this online! You can get so much more information about your consumers online in this day and age, and even though this technology is not EXTREEMLY new, it certainly takes Yahoo into a fantastic area for anyone currently using Yahoo for SEO or is considering it! Not only is it a great way to reach a specific demographic, your also tapping into the customers who visit Yahoo. And according the last statistics I read that is several million potential people (depending on what type of advertising you have with them) providing a much further reach! Two thumbs up for Yahoo!
