Amazon launches two new applications for Facebook
Link to article: InternetRetailer.com - Daily News for Thursday,*March*13, 2008

Amazon.com has introduced two new applications for social networking web site Facebook.com. Amazon Giver allows users to view friends’ virtual wish lists and link directly to Amazon.com to purchase gifts. Amazon Grapevine displays a Facebook member’s friends’ recent Amazon.com activity.

Facebook users who add the Amazon Giver application to their pages can find gift ideas and also view gift recommendations for friends based on their profile details. After deciding on a gift, users can link directly to the Amazon.com web site, complete the purchase and ship it to the friend through the friend’s stored Amazon.com address. Users who add the applications must register an account with Amazon.com—a process that requires entering an address.

Amazon Grapevine allows Facebook members to see their friends` Amazon.com activity, such as when they write product reviews, tag items or add products to their wish lists. Updates are posted to members’ Facebook News Feeds.

Both applications share information only with friends that the Facebook user selects when adding the application. Facebook recently backtracked on a system that would have informed a Facebook user’s friends of his online purchases in the face of widespread criticism that the system violated users’ privacy.

Amazon.com is No. 1 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide. There were nearly 34 million unique visitors to Facebook.com in January, according to web measurement firm comScore Inc.
