Default MCafee - Worth the $ ?

Hello - Happy Thursday!

Curious to know if others use the Mcafee security scan. The sales guy is really high pressure stating that a google update ( google annotation???what is this?) on August 1 will drive up their pricing so sign up now...( I think they say on averages sales increase 14%).

I am curious if you feel it is worth the investment and if you feel it drives incremental business as they state - due to the trusted status. I am trying to understand how much of it is a sales pitch and how much of it is really valuable. We have the yahoo secure site badge but someone suggested this and a BBB badge as well.

Thanks in advance for your input!
Carol

Hi Carol --

They must be targeting Texas websites (haha) I got the same call from them--- and coincidentally, I put a call into my rep at ECMTA (its a E commerce Merchant Association) who frequently gets discounts for members on things - she said she is currently working on a 50% deal to go into effect Sept 1. The rep at McAfee did mention that google would be putting an icon next to the merchant names in the organic listings of members, not sure if this is really something worth the money - but I am waiting until ECMTA gets the discount -- I think you have to look at your current sales to see if the logo is really worth it... but thats my 2 cents...

thanks liz!
hmm....yes guess they were targeting Texas - thanks for the tip. Not sure if it is worth it either - maybe some others have some input too. My site is already scanned due to the credit card compliancy. And I found out that Yahoo's servers are scanned daily by McAfee - so it may just be a consumer confidence thing.....

I agree that it is mostly a consumer perception thing but that doesn't mean it's any less effective. We signed up about 2 years ago and did their 30 day conversion test and did see higher conversions. It depends if the difference in conversions will cover the costs in your case. It did for us.
