Default Upgrade Word press in Yahoo Hosting

Does anyone know how to get the latest version of wordpress (2.6) through Yahoo Hosting. I currently have my settings set to automatic updates when available, but it shows I am running Wordpress 2.0.2 Does anyone know why Yahoo isn't upgrading to the latest & greatest??

Hi Liz! I'm a blog developer here at Solid Cactus.

I wouldn't recommend upgrading to version 2.6 on Wordpress, as Yahoo! doesn't yet provide support for it. What I would recommend, however, is that you upgrade to the latest supported version, which is 2.3. This can, unfortunately, be a time-consuming and tedious process. It involves downloading a copy of your blog, deleting your blog, setting up a new blog using the new version, and uploading the copy (to restore all of your posts and theme).

You can also upgrade directly to 2.6.1 (the newest version), but you would need to move to a host other than Yahoo! (i.e.: GoDaddy or Jaguar PC). This is less time consuming and will actually improve your blog's SEO quality, but it is slightly more expensive and a little more complicated to set up.

If you'd like, we offer a "blog migration" service here at Solid Cactus to update your blog. It's fairly inexpensive and usually doesn't involve much more than an hour or so of down-time.

I have already told your EC you're interested in this, and if you'd like, I can have her call you about getting this done. She could also provide you with instructions on upgrading on your own. Otherwise, feel free to contact her at your leisure.

Thanks Liz!

How did you go about upgrading to 2.6? Did you use the guide on wordpress? Or one of the automatic updater plugins?

Rickytim

My son (yes, a 14 yr old!!) upgraded my wordpress for me and wrote the template for my blog. (see at the bottom of my blog - the template powered by wordpress and layout by....) He tells me it was quick and easy and there has got to be instructions out there somewhere on how to do it. I originally posted here to find out how, then he (my son) figured out how to do it on his own. Its great having my own in house IT guy (haha)

He tells me wordpress gives you a step by step guide on how to upgrade - did you try that?

Ya I did find the guide on word press but I think I found what my problem is. When I download the update zip file from wordpress there is no folders in the zip just all the files listed there. Its not in the same format that is created when I install wordpress on the yahoo side. I know it probly sounds confusing but I think that is what might be my problem. Would your son maybe be able post the link to guide he used? And the funny thing is I am also an IT person but code and webpages are new to me.
