Choosing Quality Directories
Hi! Great question, however be careful about which directories you choose to submit your link to. First, be sure the directory has atleast a PageRank of 5/10. Second, it is best to choose directories that relate to your particular niche. After all, if a directory lists everything from car insurance to pet toys, will visitors be able to actually find your link among all the others and click to your site? Probably not.
However, there are a few high quality directories that have a plethora of categories, such as Dmoz.org and Yahoo's Directory at Dir.Yahoo.com . Best of The Web at Botw.org is also a great directory, but does require a fee.
Keep in mind that submitting your site to directories should be only one portion of your entire link building campaign. Low quality directories with thousands of irrelevant links will only hurt your SEO. Look for well-established directories, especially ones that relate to your industry. Expand your link building campaign by looking for informational sites and blogs related to your industry, and contact the site owner and ask if they would consider adding your link to their site. Don't be afraid to link out to their site too - but as with all aspects of SEO, think in terms of moderation.
Thanks,
